As a follow-up to my November blog post explaining the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), here are 5 reasons parents should complete the FAFSA, even if they have erroneously been told before they “make too much money”:
- By filling out the FAFSA, students are eligible for federal student loans
- Students will not be eligible for campus work-study jobs if they do not complete the FAFSA
- The FAFSA allows parents the ability to borrow through the Federal PLUS Loan Program
- Without the FAFSA, it is unlikely that students can qualify for state financial aid
- Some colleges won’t grant students merit aid if they do not complete the FAFSA
The FAFSA can be completed as early as January 1. Get started here: https://fafsa.ed.gov/
